A round number giveaway

When I was at the card show yesterday, my blog kept buzzing along as it tends to do. The odometer on the lower right rolled right past 500,000 page views.

The number isn't as important as it thinks it is. In fact, the sitemeter tracker below it claims I haven't even reached 500,000 yet. That one says I'm at 469,000-something. And then there are all those "how many of those are Real Viewers" discussions.

But taken another way the number is a nice excuse to pause and say, "wow, I've been writing for awhile and people -- at least I think they're people -- are still dropping in to read or just look at pretty pictures."

Thanks for doing all that.

I've got some cards to give away as a further expression of my thanks.

It's probably not a smart thing to do, given that I'm still about 4 weeks behind on card packages, have just come back from a card show with so much organizing to do, have a work week jammed packed with Super Bowl stuff to handle, and have a washing machine and toilet that aren't cooperating right now.

But the cards aren't all that great. Maybe nobody will enter and we can pretend this milestone never happened.

OK, you don't want to hear that.

You want to see cards.

These are just some items I had sitting around -- and I'm not being coy when I say that, like some people with epic collections that I know. These cards really WERE just sitting around. Take them from me. Please.

The winner of this giveaway will get all 36 cards.

Here they are:

That's the first nine. The 1970s-looking cards are actual 1970s, not some sort of Topps Mom Throws Out Your Cards thing. The Pujols is an xrefractor (I know we're not supposed to call them that anymore). The Beckett is a gold parallel.

Second nine. The Chamberlain is a diecut. The McCovey is not the real '69, but one of those 2012 Archives reprint shortprint items.

Third nine. The Fergie I picked up at the card show just for you. The Russell Martin is a relic card. I'm sick of him looking like a Giant ... hell, I'm just sick of him, so he's in the prize pile. And everyone should have a Ron Cey Kellogg's card in their collection.

Final nine. Pretty self-explanatory.

To reiterate, the winner gets all 36 cards to do with what they like. They can keep them. They can use them for trade bait. They can feed them to the dog. I don't care.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post that you're in the contest.

The evil randomizer will decide the rest.

The window to enter will only be open until the next post goes up on this blog in 24 hours. I want daily readers to be rewarded, so that's why I'm closing it off so soon.

A special thanks to the daily readers. But thanks to everyone, of course.

Aren't round numbers fun?

I'll bite on the off chance I need one of those diamond cards. I'm much too lazy to actually do any research right now.

Congrats on the nice number! I've got a bit over 200,000 and I think that's gnarly. If I keep at it for another three or four years, I might get to your current total!

Just goes to show you kids: If you can actually write (like Night Owl) you'll do ok in the world (of blogs).

Wow, 500,000 views! That number is difficult for us mere mortals to fathom.

Am I allowed to enter this giveaway? I'm in Australia, and I don't want our favorite Owl to be hit with big shipping costs!

I will join in the fun!

Congrats fellow half-million club member!

I don't really need another random 3 dozen cards lying around but the Beachy is cool and my jumping in the frey will change the randomization in ways that no one can truly know. I expect a thank you from the eventual winner, I didn't have to do this you know...

Night Owl-It's been a pleasure to read your take on cards most days. And no offense- but I'll stay out of the running for the cards. My wife is already making me cut back on what I have right now. Just wanted to congratulate you!

Congrats on the huge visit count (even if they are aliens messing with your head) and thanks for the contest. Glad I read your blog today, somedays I miss reading it because I get worn out from a bad habit I'm trying to kick called "work". Can't seem to get rid of it. I've heard there is something called "Retardedment"? I can't afford it yet and am still too young for it.
